Due to the overwhelming success of Dissolve, Meghan has teamed up with award-winning filmmaker Michelle Porter to create a documentary film focusing on drug facilitated sexual assault, and inspired by Meghan's stage play. Keep reading for a brief synopsis of the film.

The Situation:
A little liquid or powder is slipped into a drink. Women are being drugged into unconscious or semi-conscious states and being raped. They often have little or no memory of the attack/attacker, often just the aftermath feeling that something horrible has happened. Due to the lack of awareness about this serious crime, women are unaware of how vulnerable they are and rapists are getting away with their crimes.

Focus:
We are creating a documentary on "date rape drugs" (drug-facilitated sexual assault) to inform, provoke and engage. We will focus on the real stories of several victims/survivors of this crime, who are brave enough to come forward and share their stories. Their experiences will serve as a springboard into a larger discussion of these drugs, their effects, the aftermath, the medical establishment, the police, the legal system and prevention. We will interweave interviews with experts throughout.

Audience:
We plan distribution in high schools, colleges and universities; libraries, community centres and women centres around the world. We will also seek broadcast and festival distribution.

Filmmakers:
We are Genie-nominated, award-winning filmmakers with degrees from the University of British Columbia. Check out our website at www.compactfilms.com

Budget:
We are trying to raise a budget of $300,000 to make this very important documentary. There are no significant works out there right now to educate young people about the dangers of date rape drugs and what to do if you think you've been drugged and raped. We have unique access to this topic as not many women are willing to talk about their experiences on camera but we have some very brave women who are willing to share their stories so that this doesn't happen to others.
